Open Evening 2020
An Introduction & Welcome from our Acting Principal - Ms R Cook
We know that applying for and moving to secondary school is a significant event for Year 6 pupils. Traditionally at the Academy we have opened our doors to allow pupils and parents to see the wonderful work that takes place within each faculty and department at the Academy to support children and parents to make important decisions about the next school on their educational journey.
However, the current pandemic has meant that we as an Academy have had to consider whether this is the right thing to do this year.
The safety of our young people in the local community is paramount and having large groups of pupils, parents and staff attending our open evening increases the risk of transmitting COVID-19.
Therefore, we as an Academy have agreed along with several schools in Walsall that the open evening planned for September 24th will not take place in the usual way.
We are using our website to showcase what we do and will add more and more resources to help Year 6 pupils and yourselves to get an insight into the Academy. The resources that will be added will be in the form of virtual tours, a talk from me, videos and photographs of the Academy.
We would encourage you to visit our website from Thursday 24th September and have a look for yourself at the Open Evening Pages and Year 6 Transition pages to see what the Academy is offering. Please visit this page frequently as well as our social media pages.
For those children with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) the transition to secondary school can be particularly challenging and we recognise the need to liaise with families to support your decision at this important time. Please do make contact with our SENDCO Mr K Wallworth email@example.com to book an appointment to meet him or to gather more information in order for you to make the right decision for your child.
If you have any specific questions to ask of particular subjects or colleagues, please contact JLATransitions@josephleckieacademy.co.uk and Miss Ravat, Associate Assistant Principal, will reply to any questions or queries you may have to find out more about subjects and life at the Academy.
If you would like to book an appointment to come in and see the Academy, please contact Miss Ravat on the email above and we can then organise a live tour for small groups.
