We are seeking to appoint an excellent classroom practitioner who is an enthusiastic, innovative and engaging teacher of Music to join a dynamic and expanding team at the Academy. There is an experienced Head of Subject and Music is part of the Arts and Humanities Faculty which consists of: Art, Drama, History, Government and Politics, Law and Music and has several experienced members of staff to enhance the Arts and performance opportunities for our students.

At the Academy we currently offer a wide programme of options which includes Music Technology Level 1 / 2 Technical Award (NCFE). We currently have over 100 students studying Music across Key Stage 4 on the Level 2 course. In addition, all students study Music an hour a week at Key Stage 3. We are also looking to expand Music into the Sixth Form so this is an exciting time to join the Academy to enhance the lives of our students in Music and beyond including extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities and wider Academy events. We have 24 new iMac’s in one of our dedicated Music teaching room and there is a wide range of Music equipment, including keyboards and a wide range instruments to support and enhance students. We are also working with the Music Hub to offer peripatetic lessons to enhance student opportunities and broaden their experiences and also have our own in-house Music TA who is graduate specialist in singing and performances. 

We would welcome applications from PGCE students who may be able to start before the end of the Summer term, teachers early in their careers through to experienced staff. We have experienced staff to support ECT’s and staff at all levels. Being part of outstanding faculty will further enhance the opportunities for staff personal and professional development as the faculty has a wealth of experience and some outstanding practice.

Joseph Leckie Academy is a vibrant, exciting and innovative mixed 11-18 Academy being graded as “Good” across all areas by Ofsted (October 2021) with some excellent feedback across all subjects and our Pastoral Care.  Our ongoing desire to continually look to move forwards means that this is an exciting time to join our successful and welcoming team. The Academy has continually remained as one of the top non-selective secondary schools for progress in Walsall based on validated results and is a great place to work.

We are an expanding academy with numbers growing to well over 1500, and we continue to be over-subscribed at Key Stage 3 and in our large sixth form. This is an exciting time for you to join our team as we continue to expand and grow. The academy has a large sixth form of well over 240 students.

You will have/show:

• Practical skills and expertise as outlined in the Job description 

• A passion and vision for Music and the Performing Arts and the importance to students and their future lives

• A passion and vision for working with students in their personal, social and emotional needs as well as their academic development

• The ability to motivate and inspire students

• Experience of delivering Music at Key Stage 3 and 4

• The ability to contribute to other courses across the Academy, PSHE or other specialisms such as a second subject at least at KS3

• Confidence in dealing with students across different age ranges, particularly Key Stage 3 and 4 

• Creative skills and a professional approach

• The determination to support in raising student achievement within the classroom and beyond

• The passion to enrich the lives of our students and contribute to the development of Cultural Capitaland wider enrichment opportunities to enhance the life opportunities for students

• Team skills

• Outstanding inter-personal and communication skills with students, colleagues and parents

• A clear understanding of the importance of Safeguarding.
