OCR TECHNICAL DIGITAL MEDIA (Single)

Entry Requirements

Minimum  of 5 A*-C grades I grade 5 (new grading structure) at GCSE or equivalent. Grade C or equivalent in ICT is preferred.

Course Description

The Cambridge Technical qualification is a two year programme of study with the ability to gain a certificate qualification at the end of the first year. The course comprises five elements, two exam based units and three coursework based units.

Unit 1: Media products and audiences (Exam): Topics covered in this unit: Understanding the ownership models of media institutions, understanding how media products are advertised and distributed, understanding how meaning is created in media products, understanding the target audiences of media products, being able to evaluate research data used by media institutions, being able to evaluate legal, ethical and regulatory issues associated with media products, being able to create and evaluate pre-production documents for a new media product.

Unit 2: Pre-production and planning (Exam): Topics covered in this unit: Understanding the factors that need to be considered during the planning of a media product, being able to interpret client requirements and target audience considerations, being able to plan the preproduction of a media product.

Unit 3: Create a media product (Coursework): Topics covered in this unit: Being able to create a proposal with sample materials for an original media product to a client brief, being able to plan and develop preproduction materials for an original media product to a client brief, being able to create production materials for an original media product to a client brief, being able to carry out post­ production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief.

Assessment

Examinations are both externally assessed, whereas the coursework units will be assessed internally.
