Early Years Educator (Triple Award)

Entry Requirements

Minimum of 5 A*-C grades / grade 5 (new grading structure) at GCSE or equivalent.  Grade C or equivalent in your chosen study subject is preferred.

Clear DBS check showing no criminal convictions, as you will work with young children.

Course Description

Students will study a range of subjects including Child Development, Observation and Assessment, Working with Children, Play and Learning ,Health and Wellbeing, Child Health, Children with Additional Needs , Teaching Literacy, Teaching Mathematics, School Readiness, Partnership Working, International Perspectives on Education.  Students will also be out on placement for a full week every other week working in local schools and nurseries and will complete a practical professional portfolio.

Assessment

Assessment is by internally marked coursework and practical tasks on placement. There are also two pieces of externally marked controlled coursework undertaken, one in Year 12 and one in Year 13.

Career Opportunities

The course gives the equivalent of 3 A levels up to  A* grade and can be used either to go to university to study subjects such as teaching, nursing, psychology, family studies, early years education , criminology and social work; or students can go straight into employment as fully qualified level 3 child care practitioners . Many of our students have gained employment in the schools and nurseries in which they did their placements.
