Entry Requirements

Minimum of 5 A*-C grades I grade 5 (new grading structure) at GCSE or equivalent with  English and B in maths.  Grade B or equivalent in your chosen study subject is preferred. Mathematics at A level is recommended alongside Physics.

Course Description

Students will study the following:

  • Further  Mechanics and Thermal Physics
  • Fields and their Consequences
  • Nuclear Physics

Plus one from the following options:

  • Astrophysics
  • Medical  Physics
  • Engineering Physics
  • Turning Points in Physics
  • Electronics

Assessment

The course will be assessed via three written papers including  relevant  practical skills:

Paper 1: 2 hours  long consisting of  85 marks (60 marks: Short and long answer questions and 25 marks: Multiple choice questions).

Paper 2: 2 hours  long consisting of  85 marks(60 marks: Short and long answer questions and 25 marks: Multiple choice questions).

Paper 3: 2 hours  long consisting of  80 marks (45 marks: short and long answer questions on practical and data analysis and 35 marks: short and long answer questions  on the  option unit).

A level Physics would complement Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics,Computer Science, Further Mathematics.
