Entry Requirements
Minimum of 5 grade 5 (new grading structure) at GCSE or equivalent with English and 6 in maths. At least a grade 6 in GCSE Chemistry or Combined Science is the minimum requirement.
Course Description
There are three areas of chemistry which are studied.

Rate equations. | Aldehydes, Ketones, Carboxylic Acids and Derivatives. | Transition metals. |
Equilibrium constant Kc for homogeneous systems. | Aromatic Chemistry. | Reactions of ions in aqueous solution. |
Electrode potentials and electrochemical cells . |
Amines, Amino Acids, Proteins and DNA. | |
Acids and Bases. | Polymers. | |
Organic synthesis, NMR and Chromatography. |
Assessment
The course will be assessed via three written papers including relevant practical skills:
Paper 1: 2 hours long consisting of 105 marks: a mixture of short and long answer questions.
Paper 2: 2 hours long consisting of 105 marks: a mixture of short and long answer questions.
Paper 3: 2 hours long consisting of 90 marks (40 marks: practical and data analysis 20 marks: questions testing across the specification and 30 marks: multiple choice questions).

A level Chemistry would complement advanced level qualifications in Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Health and Social Care, Sociology or Psychology.
