SMSC & FBV

At Joseph Leckie Academy, we give conscious endeavour to ensure that we develop students' moral, social, cultural and spiritual selves alongside fundamental British values. This underpins all that we do, formally and informally, in the curriculum and beyond and as members of our community. The aim is to ensure students have conscious understanding of themselves, and that they develop a set of personal values as citizens.

Many aspects of SMSC and FBV development are covered through day-to-day activities and within assemblies and PDP. In addition to these activities, we have a programme of events during the year to support this alongside a varied enrichment programme.

Our aim is also to develop students' character, in particular their resilience and their confidence. As well as academic knowledge and understanding, and employability skills, so that they can thrive in and outside of school.

We believe SMSC and FBV development makes a huge contribution towards both formal attainment and to wider outcomes in and beyond the Academy.

The booklet in the link below outlines the inputs across the curriculum and wider that enable a strong development of students' conscious spiritual self, the development of their moral compass, and social and cultural skills, knowledge and understanding.

Enrichment Week

At the end of the Academic Year, we host an annual Activities week here at Joseph Leckie where students are given the opportunity to take part in a number of Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural activities. Each department provides a number of internal and external activities that allow students to explore each area of SMSC as well as FBV.
