GCSE & Level 2 Vocational Results Day - 25th August 2022

Students from Joseph Leckie Academy are celebrating hugely successful GCSE and Vocational Level 2 results today, with students from Year 11, 12 and 13 collecting results for a wide range of qualifications and achieving some of the best results in the history of the Academy. Almost two thirds of students achieved a GCSE Grade 4 or better in both English and Maths, with 60% of students achieving at least a Grade 5 or better in GCSE English.

Well over 80% of students entered for vocational GCSE equivalent examinations have achieved a Level 2 Pass grade or better, with over 50% of vocational entries achieving the top Merit and Distinction grades. There were some fantastic results at the top end of the achievement scale, with twelve students achieving an optimal grade 9 in a Science GCSE subject, ten students achieving Grade 9 in a Modern Foreign Language GCSE, ten students achieving Grade 9 in History and seven students achieving Grade 9 in English. The Academy has also improved the number of students entered and achieving the EBACC measure and there are 44 students from Year 10 who have achieved a GCSE pass grade of 4 or higher in History or a Modern Foreign Language.

Despite the predicted national fall in examination results, Joseph Leckie Academy has managed to exceed last year’s attainment in every national measure and has made significant improvements on the last set of external examinations taken before the COVID outbreak in 2019. Given the unique challenges this cohort of students have faced through the pandemic and missing over a year of their school-based education, these results are especially impressive and allow students to move onto the next stage of their education. The majority of Joseph Leckie Academy students choose to stay on at the Joseph Leckie Sixth Form, which celebrated excellent A-Level and Level 3 equivalent vocational results this time last week.

Academy Principal, James Ludlow stated “ I am delighted with the outstanding achievement of our students in their exams this summer. These are the best results in the academy’s history and reflect all the hard work of our students and the teachers and staff who have supported them throughout the years and in particular through the pandemic. In their inspection report last year, Ofsted found that students and staff were proud to belong to the Joseph Leckie Academy community…today I am so proud of our students and everything they have achieved. We are very pleased that a record number of students will be joining our 6th form in September as the academy goes from strength to strength"

The Academy's focus over the coming days will be to assist students through the post-results service and to support them with their next steps including registration for the Academy Sixth Form and careers support. Assistant Principal, Rachel Tranter summed it up perfectly, “Our students have worked hard through a difficult and turbulent time to achieve what are a fantastic set of results. We couldn’t be prouder of them and look forward to seeing them do great things in the future!”
