TEACHER OF ART

PART TIME/FULL MATERNITY COVER ONE YEAR

Ideally 4 days Monday – Thursday*

Start date for maternity role 1st September 2025

We are seeking to appoint an excellent classroom practitioner who is an enthusiastic, innovative and engaging teacher of Art and Design specialisms to join a dynamic and expanding Academy. The Academy offers a wide programme of options at Key Stage 4 and 5. We are seeking to appoint a candidate that can offer Art at KS3 and 4 as well as the possibility of teaching at Post 16.  In addition, the successful candidate may be required to teach Design Technology at Key Stage 3 and/or 4.

All students do Art at Key Stage 3 (Years 7 and 8) and are taught by specialist Art teachers. At Key Stage 4, Art and Design GCSE (OCR) is a very popular option subject with around 3 classes in each year at KS4. Art also offer an award for KS4 students as part of one of our new vocational pathways. The subject also offers A level Art and Design, (Fine Art – AQA) as well as a new Arts Award for Post 16 level 2 students as part of our new T Level foundation programme. The subject is well led by a very experienced Head of Subject and there is a wealth of expertise within the Arts and Humanities Faculty team to support new staff at all levels.

The Academy has a large Sixth Form and this faculty contributes significantly to courses and numbers Post 16 so the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to development of A Levels, Level 3 courses and possible vocational courses as well as the opportunity to shape the future of other Level 3 courses as we continue to expand our Sixth form. There are plenty of opportunities to experience teaching at Post 16 as well as contributing to Post 16 developments.

We would welcome applications from teachers early in their careers through to experienced staff. We have experienced staff to support ECT’s and staff at all levels. *Ideally this post is part time Monday to Thursday. For the right candidate who can offer additional subjects, we may consider a full-time position for the year. This will be discussed on interview.

There are many opportunities at the Academy for staff personal and professional development with a wealth of experience and some outstanding practice in these faculties. There may be opportunities for the successful candidate with the right qualities and experience to apply for other roles within the Academy as these arise for the duration of the maternity cover.

Our last Ofsted inspection in we were judged the Academy to be good in all categories and for overall effectiveness with some excellent feedback across all subjects and our Pastoral Care.

Joseph Leckie Academy is a vibrant, exciting and innovative mixed 11-18 Academy being graded as “Good” across all areas by Ofsted (October 2021).  Our ongoing desire to continually look to move forwards means that this is an exciting time to join our successful and welcoming team. You will have/show:

  • Practical skills and expertise as outlined in the Job description
  • A passion and vision for working with students in their personal, social and emotional needs as well as their academic and creative development
  • The ability to motivate and inspire students
  • Experience of delivering Art at KS3 and Art and Design GCSE at KS4, and preferably some experience of teaching Post 16
  • The ability to teach some aspects of Design Technology and/or another subject at least at KS3.
  • The ability to teach PSHE within form time
  • The ability to stimulate curiosity, interest and enjoyment in learning
  • Confidence in dealing with students across different age ranges, at Key Stage 3 and 4 and possibly KS5
  • Creative skills and a professional approach
  • The determination to support in raising student achievement within the classroom
  • The passion to enrich the lives of our students and contribute to the development of Cultural Capital to enhance the life opportunities for our students
  • Engagement in professional development opportunities
  • Outstanding inter-personal and communication skills with students, colleagues and parents
  • A clear understanding of the importance of Safeguarding.
