Applying to Sixth Form
Sixth Form Applications and Places for 2020-21
In this extraordinary situation during the Coronavirus crisis, it has meant that adjustments have had to be made to our sixth form application and interview process for those students wishing to enrol to start in September 2020. This is likely to be of interest to current Year 11 students, Year 12 Level 2 resit students and any external students who were looking to apply for a place in the Academy Sixth Form for next year.
The vast majority of internal Year 11 students who applied to the Academy have already had their interview. At last count, there were only 5 students who have not yet had their interview that were planned for the week we closed. As the application date has long passed- December 19th 2019- we have conditionally offered places to more than 130 students, which means that Year 12 will be full for the coming academic year if all of these students achieve the required results and take up the place they have been offered.
Any child who currently attends the Academy can still apply for a place in the sixth form, but it is likely that they may be put on a waiting list if those subjects are full. All places will be confirmed on results day but priority will be given to those who had applied for a place before the deadline. Also, the conditions of their letter still apply and offers can be withdrawn or changed according to results achieved and option availability.
For external applicants, interviews had started at the time of closure and Mr Greaves has continued with those he is aware of, by telephone, while the Academy has been closed. If you are an external student who has applied but not yet had an interview, please contact Mr Greaves on his email address below and he will contact you directly. Again, if you receive an offer, this may place you on a waiting list if you apply for courses that are full.
If you are an internal candidate who has not applied for the sixth form, but needs guidance on your next steps, away from the Academy, please contact the careers advisor, Mr Kirit Patel, on his email address below and he will assist you in finding alternative provision. Similarly, local colleges and training providers have open phone services etc that will be able to advise you on your next steps.
If you require any more clarification or support, please feel free to contact Mr Greaves or Mrs Devey at the Academy.

All Year 11 students attending Joseph Leckie Academy will have the opportunity to apply to the Sixth Form.
Entry is based upon performance in GCSE examinations, coupled with a positive approach to studies, excellent attendance, punctuality and behaviour. Students from other establishments are also welcome to apply.
The Application Process
Students wishing to apply to the Sixth Form will need to complete an application form and provide evidence of good attendance and punctuality, a positive behaviour record and a desire to study. External students must bring evidence of this to the interview.
The student will then be invited for a career based interview with the Head of Sixth Form to establish potential grades and the most appropriate programme of study to meet their aspirations following compulsory education. Information provided by the student along with estimated grades will be used to form the basis of a provisional offer.
Students predicted extremely good GCSE grades will be given the opportunity to study four subjects. Most universities require three "good" A Levels or Vocational qualifications only. An Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is offered to students who wish to complete further academic study in addition to their standard offer.

Deadline for application forms to Sixth Form: 19th December 2019
Admission interviews commence: 3rd February 2020

The Sixth Form is great at JLA. The staff are really helpful and know what they're talking about. They've helped me to make the right choices for UCAS university applications.
