BTEC Science (Single & Double)

Entry Requirements

Minimum of 5 grade 5 (new grading structure) at GCSE or equivalent.  Grade 5 or equivalent in your chosen study subject is preferred.

Course Description

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Applied Science

This course consists of three mandatory units plus optional units that provide a combined total of 360 learning hours, which is equivalent to 1 A level ( 5 hours per week).

BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Applied Science

This course consists of six mandatory units plus two optional units that provide a combined total of 720 learning hours which is equivalent to 2 A levels (10 hours per week).

There are a wide range of optional units to choose from which range from Scientific Practical Skills, Astronomy, Diseases and Infections, Microbiology, Genetics and Genetic Engineering.

Assessment

Some units are assessed by way of a formal external examination (Pearson).  Other assignments are assessed internally using a range of assessment materials and then moderated externally in June.   Each unit carries equal weighting towards the final grade.
